- NOTES ON RUNNING UNDER WINDOWS
-
- WRITE CHINESE runs best as a stand-alone DOS application. If launched from
- Windows, the opening music may sound unpleasantly erratic. This will be true
- even if the program is provided "exclusive" use of system resources.
-
- To toggle off the opening music, the program may launched via the CHINESE.PIF
- file provided as part of this program package. The PIF file provides
- CHINESE.EXE with 512K memory, full-screen operation, exclusive use of system
- resources, and shuts off the opening music via a command-line parameter. The
- CHINESE.ICO file displays the character zhong-1, meaning "middle" as in the
- "Middle Kingdom" (China).
-
- The CHINESE.PIF file assumes that the program is installed in the C:\CHINESE
- subdirectory. If installed on some other drive or in a different subdirectory,
- you should use the PIF Editor to modify the file appropriately.
-
- If you prefer launching WRITE CHINESE from a full-screen DOS prompt, type
- "CHINESE N" to switch off the opening music.
